SESSION 1 EXCLUSIVES

Session 1 will run from 9:45 to 10:30 am

DONORS CHOOSE: HOW TO USE IT TO FUNDRAISE FOR YOUR CLASSROOM (Room 35; facilitator: Kelly Perry): DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on our site, and you can give any amount to the project that most inspires you. You could not find a better person to learn about the service from than Kelly Perry, who has successfully funded several projects for her classroom and students through it.
CTE TOUR: LEARN ABOUT AMAZING THINGS YOUR STUDENTS ARE DOING IN CTE CLASSES (Room 112; facilitators: Veronica Salisbury, Heidi McManus, Jill Hubbard, and David Ellingson): Students are coding, cooking, designing, engineering, marketing and running businesses right here at TuHS, through a number of impressive Career and Technical Education classes and programs. Go 'behind the scenes" and check out amazing student work already underway.
SCREENCAST CENTRAL: FROM QUICK TIME TO SCREENCAST-O-MATIC, HOW TO CREATE SCREENCASTS FOR YOUR CLASSES (Room 126; facilitator: Kevin McManamon): Screencasts have gained fame in recent years as a core component of a flipped classroom approach, but there are many other ways they could be helpful to your classroom (whether it's for projects students create, or to make simple videos to send to parents through Synergy). Whether it's by Mac, PC or other device, find out how to use some free tools to get you started.

SESSION 2 EXCLUSIVES

Session 2 will run from 10:45 to 11:30 am

Picture
NEWSELA: TIPS & STRATEGIES FOR IMPLEMENTATION (Room 14; facilitator: Rick Osborn): Since all teachers are aiming to assign at least one Newsela article to their students per quarter, this session will help teachers work through questions about the service, how to implement it in class and ways to work with the data it generates.

SUPPORT CLASSES: LEARN ABOUT AVID, CE2, INTERCAMBIO, UPWARD BOUND, ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION PROGRAMS (Room 43/44; panel members include: Chris Lieuallen, Lisa Whitaker, Chris McIsaac & Caroline Blackledge): Tualatin High School has an extensive range of support classes that help students accomplish their goals in a number of ways, but not everyone knows about these programs and what they entail. Here's your chance to learn more about the offerings, and the work your students do in them. With a better sense what is available to students, you, too, can increase your support for them.
MANAGING POLITICAL CONVERSATIONS IN THE CLASSROOM (Room 123; facilitators: Tryon Thompson and Kevin McManamon): We are in the heart of a contentious election year, with a backdrop of increasing political polarization between right and left. Learn about tips and techniques for handling political conversations, as well as review what public employees may, and may not, do in their classrooms with regards to political expression.

TRAININGS AVAILABLE AT BOTH SESSION TIMES

WEEBLY WEB SITE CREATION & BEAUTIFICATION (Room 205; facilitators: Becky Beeler and Dustin O'Donnell): Weebly is a free, easy-to-use, do-it-yourself website builder (Learning Currents, itself, is a Weebly site). Having a web site can improve communication with parents and students, and support their ability to catch up on missed work. If you're interested in creating a Weebly site, or in doing more with your existing site, this session is for you.
